What is the first step?

What is the first step in any big task you have to tackle or issue/problem you have to face?

How do I start to get a handle on my money?

First you have to figure out where you stand currently. Before you make grand plans and financial goals, you need to be aware of where you are in the present.

When was the last time you sat down and really understood where your money was going each paycheck or month? This is true for both business and personal finances. If you have no idea where you stand now. How are you going to create a plan to move toward your goals in the future?

Grab our monthly bills calendar and start writing out your bills and the due dates.

Not sure where to start

Print out your bank statements for at least the last three months and see where you are spending your money. It is so easy to swipe your card and forget it. OR sign up for a recurring subscription and forget to cancel it.

Identify the monthly recurring expenses and write them down in a calendar. You can use an app for this, but if you are like me, you need to write this down with pen and paper to help it stick in your brain.

Afterall, what gets measured gets managed. If you are giving energy to this then you will naturally pay more attention.
