3 Ways to Contact the IRS

Sharing is caring!

Have you ever had to contact the IRS? It’s not always the easiest thing to do! If you need to get in touch with them, here are three ways to do it.

1) Phone
The best way to contact the IRS is by phone. Call 800-829-1040 and they will be able to help you with whatever issue you have. For example, if you need to answer a tax question, or you are delinquent on your taxes and need someone on the phone ASAP for help, call them!

2) Email
If you are experiencing a tax emergency and need to speak with an IRS representative, your first option is to call 1-800-829-1040. For those who do not have a telephone or need the assistance of a translator, you can use this online resource. For taxpayers that prefer emailing their questions, this form allows taxpayers to send electronic messages (e-mail) through a secure web site.

3) In Person
One of the easiest ways to contact the IRS is by visiting a Taxpayer Assistance Center. In person assistance is available through walk-in appointments or call ahead appointments.
You can also reach an IRS representative by calling their toll-free number at 1-800-829-1040. Hours of operation are from 7 am until 7 pm Monday through Friday and from 9 am until 5 pm on Saturdays during tax season (January 15 – April 17). Calls are limited to taxpayers with a scheduled appointment for assistance.
